One side of a kite is 3 cm less than twice the length of another side. If the perimeter is 36 cm, find the length of longer side.
let the length of two of the sides = x cm
then the length of the other two sides = 2x - 3 cm
x + x + 2x - 3 + 2x - 3 = 36
6x - 6 = 36
6x = 42
x = 7
and the length of the longer side = 2(7) - 3 = 11 cm
