Rarinstraw is correct......

The y intercept of  y = x^2 -  2   occurs at (0, -2)

d is only tangent to y = x^2 - 2   at (-1,-1)  but a and b will not intersect the function at all

c will have a y intercept at (0, -1)  and this line will cut x^2 - 2  in exactly two places.......thus, there will be two real solutions......

cool cool cool
