y varies directly with x,  so  y = kx   , where  k  is some constant.

 

y  =  kx        When  y = 75 ,  x = 1/2 .   So

 

75  =  k(1/2)       Multiply both sides by  2 .

 

150  =  k

                          So...

y  =  150x

 

To find  y  when  x = 2\(\frac{1}{4}\)  , plug in  2\(\frac14\)  for  x .

 

y  =  150( 2\(\frac14\) )        1/4 = 0.25 ,  so  2 + 1/4 = 2.25

 

y  =  150( 2.25 )

 

y  =  337.5
