Paul and Eric collected 270 phone cards altogether, Paul collected 4 times as many phone cards as Eric. How many phone cards must Paul give Eric so that they would have an equal number of phone cards?

e + 4e = 270

e = 54   then   p = 216        to have equal cards they would each have 135 (because total is 270)  so  e  needs to get  81 cards from p

Let Eric collected 'x' cards

      Paul collected 4x cards

      Total = x + 4x = 5x = 270

                             => x = 270/5 = 53

      So Eric had '54 cards and Paul has 54 * 4 cards

          i.e   Paul had '216 cards.

To have equal cards, each must have 270/2 = 135 cards

    So Paul meet give 216 - 135 = \(\boxed{81\ cards}\)
