If we split the total amount of paint so that each can had the same amount, how much paint would be in each can?
The amount of paint is
1(2 1/2) + 2(4) + 1(5 1/2) =
5/2 + 8 + 11/2 =
16/2 + 8
8 + 8
16
So....each can would contain 16/2 = 8 pints
