Are you referring to a right angled triangle?

A*B=5
B*C=6.5
Find A x C

OK, time for a little algebra.

We have to solve each equation to give us answers in terms of B since that is the only variable both equations have in common.

The first one:

A*B=5

Divide both sides by B.

(A*B)/B=5/B

Cancel the Bs on the left and simplify.

A=5/B

Now do it again for the second one, but solve for C.

B*C=6.5

Divide both sides by B.

(B*C)/B=6.5/B

Cancel the Bs on the left and simplify.

C=6.5/B

Now, we know what C equals in terms of B, and we know what A equals in terms of B. If A = (5 / B) and C = (6.5 / B) then A x C is:

(5/B)*(6.5/B)=AC

Now simplify the left my multiplying the tops together and the bottoms together.

(32.5/B^2)=AC

GOOD LUCK!!!
