you can't subtract these numbers until their denominators i.e. the numbers under the dash are not equal. you should make their denominators equal bu multiplying and dividing the same number from one of the fractions. here's the solution for your question:
11/14-5/7
let us see that denominator of which fraction can be made equal to the other.
the fraction is 5/7 as the denoinator can be made equal to the other denominator by multiplying two in it.
if we multiply two in the denoinator, see what happens:
5/7: 5/7x2=5/14
the denominators are now eqaual but the new fraction that is 5/14 is not qual to the original fraction as we have multiplied two only below the dash so we should multiply a two in the numerator also that is in the number above the dash. thus the final number that we get is 10/14. now we can carry our subtraction peacefullly as the denoinators are same.
once the denominators are same, we can subtract or add the numbers in the numerator that is the numbers above the dash directly and then we can get the answer by putting the denominator under the obtained number. See how it works
11/14-5/7
let us make the denominators equal.
5/7=5x2/7x2=10/14
now as the denominators are equal, we can diretly subtract the numerators
11/14-5/7=11/14-10/14=(11-10)/14=1/14
and the answer is 1/14 have a great day
