3/5 < p < 2/3
Which of the following could be a value of p?
16/27, 0.67, 60%, (0.8)2, √4/9
Hi again Eloise :)
3/5 < p < 2/3
Which of the following could be a value of p?
16/27, 0.67, 60%, (0.8)2, √4/9
Is the 9 supposed to be under the square root too ?
Anyway lets look at these,
0.6 repeater is 2/3, you should know that... SO 0.67 is more than 2/3 so it is not that one.
60% is 6/10 = 3/5 so that is not BETWEEN those two values ... so it is not 60%
sqrt(4/9) = 2/3 so it isn't that one
(sqrt 4)/9 = 2/9 that is less than a half so it has to be less than 3/5 so it isn't that one.
----------------
that leaves 16/27 and (0.8)^2
Which of these could be p where 3/5 < p < 2/3
0.6<p<0.6 repeater
0.8^2 = 0.64 that one is between
2/3 is 18/27 so 16/27 is less than that
0.6 = (2.7*6)/27=16.2/27 so 16/27 is smaller than that - too small.
SO 0.8^2 is the only possible one.
If you are using a calc it would be easier just to convert most of them to decimals and then compare the decimal values but if it is an exercise in getting you to understand how numbers work you will learn more if you do not do this. :)
