Is the square root of seven over nineteen a rational number or irrational number? Explain
It is irrational.
An irrational number is one that cannot be expressed exactly as a fraction.
This means that it also cannot be expressed as a terminating decimal or as a recuring decimal.
When your calculator gives you an answer, it is really giving you an estimate.
seven and nineteen are both prime numbers so you can't cancel the fraction down
and 7 and 19 do not have exact square roots so
root7 and root19 are both irrational numbers
so root(7/19) must also be irrational.
