[ 4x - 1 ]  / [ x + 2]  =

 

[4x + 8  -  9 ] / [x + 2]  =    [split into separate fractions ]

 

[4x + 8] / [x + 2]   -  9/ [x +2]  =

 

4[x + 2] / [x + 2]   -  9/ [ x + 2]  =

 

4  -  9/ [x + 2]
