Hi mathybelle,
Sqrt(1003) is an irrational number.
This is because 1003 is not a square number.
There a also no square numbers that factor into 1003 so sqrt(1003) cannot be simplified.
Kitty has given you a very good approximation.
Irrational numbers cannot be written as fractions or as terminating or recuring decimals so if you want an exact answer you will have to leave it as sqrt(1003)

Hi Kitty,
Try hitting the math button located about the smilies. Enter 'sqrt(1003)' where the curser has been placed, then move the curser to the end of the line and press enter. (you can add an = sign if you want it will make no difference)
This is the output that you will get. Try giving it a go.
