There are two containers out of which one can hold 2 and 1/2 litres of milk while the other can hold 1 and 1/3 litres of milk. Suppose there are 4 containers of the first type and 9 containers of the second type. How many litres of milk is required to fill them both?

We have

4 ( 2 + 1/2)  +  9 (1 + 1/3)  =

4 ( 5/2)  + 9 ( 4/3)  =

20 / 2   +  36 / 3  =

10  +  12  =

22 L    required
