I was wondering if someone would help me with my math problem, I am struggling so much since 2 days ::
1. Find the horizontal (x) and vertical (y) interecept of the following graphs :
(a) . Y : 3x + 24
(b) A(t) = 150000 - 300t
I know that interecpt are the point whre the graph cross the axes.
I also know that to find the(y) intercept we can for instance, do x = 0 and then solve (y) or f(x). By doing that I know it willl give me the b in the equation of the line, but ALL this doesn mean anything to me ?
I mean what do I have to do ? Could anyone explain me :(

+6248 First off you have to understand that the axes are labeled whatever they happened to be labeled so you have to be careful using terms like x-intercept and y-intercept. In problem (b) the horizontal axis happens to be the t-axis and the vertical axis is the A axis.
Next we understand that the intercept of a given axis is then the value of the variable on the other axis is 0.
In problem (a) we find the horizontal intercept when the variable on the vertical axis, y, is 0. We find the vertical intercept when the variable on the horizontal axis, x, is 0.
In (a) y=3x + 24
The vertical intercept is easy, just let x=0 and evaluate y. Here we get
y=3*0 + 24 = 24
The horizontal intercept isn't quite as easy. Here we have to set y=0 and solve for x.
0 = 3x+24
-3x = 24
x = -8
So we see the vertical intercept is at (0,24), and the horizontal intercept is at (-8, 0)
I'm going to let you work problem (b), just remember

Thank you so much for your answer, and with your help I think I almost get it,
The thing I have to do, is plug 0 instead of x and solve it
then plug 0 again instead of y
Then solve it and it will give me the point of the x and y axes than I have to plug in ?
I try to do (a) again first, alone to see if I get the same result as you did !

Here is what I found if someone could correct me ??
Vertical Interectp : 150000 - 300* 0 = -150000 so Vertical Intercept = ( 0, -150000)
Horiztonal Interectp : ( 147000, 0 )

I did : A(0) = 150000 - 300*0 = 150000
So the vertical interecpt is ( 0,150000)
Then A(t) = 0
0 = 150000 - 300t
Solve for t : 0 = 150000 - 300t ( add t to the both side )
300 t = 150000 ( both side isolated by the t )
t = 150000 / 300 : 500
So the horizontal interect is ( 500,0 )
Right ?
