Ms. sanders and 3 friends ate dinner at a restaurant. The bill was $67. In addition, they left a $13 tip. Approximately what percent of the total bill did they leave as a tip?

If the bill was $67 and they left an additional $13 tip....the whole thing must have come to $80

So   ...as a percentage of the bill (before the tip)  we have   13/67 x 100% = 19.4%

As a percetage of the total (with the tip), we have  13/80 X 100%  =  16.25%

They left a 20% tip.

$13 tip / $67 total without tip * 100 (to get the percentage) = 20.
