Write the equation of a line parallel to 2x + 3y = 12 and passes through the point (-4,7).

3y = 12 - 2x

y = 4 - 2/3x

The slope is -2/3, so the parallel line slope is also -2/3. 

 

y =-2/3x+b

Now we can just plug (-4, 7) in. 

 

7 =-2/3(-4) +b

7 = 8/3 + b

21/3 = 8/3 + b

13/3 = b

So our final equation is y = -2/3x+13/3
