4x-3y = 10

4x+1y=18        Let's just subtract these equations from each other.....this results in the folllowing....

  [4x - 3y = 10]                4x - 3y = 10

-[4x + 1y = 18]              -4x - 1y = -18

                                      ----------------

                                            - 4y  = - 8

And dividing both sides by -4, we have that y = 2

And substituting this back into either of the original equations, we can find x...so.....

4x + 1(2)  = 18

4x  +  2  =  18        subtract 2 from each side

4x  = 16       divide by 4 on each side

x = 4

So the solution is :    x= 4  and y = 2
