Three times the smaller of two consecutive even integers is the same as -146 minus 4 times the larger integer. Find the integer.

3x = -146 - 4(x+1)

3x = -146 - 4x -4

7x = -150

small integer  = - 150/7

large integer = - 143/7

i don't know which integer you want

If smaller even integer is x then the next consecutive even integer is x + 2, so:

 

3x = -146 - 4(x + 2)

 

Solving this results in x being an integer (150/7 is not an integer).
