stuck on this problem: you are given a choice of taken the simple interest on $100,000 invested for 3 years at the rate of 4% or the interest on $100,000 invested for 3 years at the interest rate of 4% compounded monthly. Which investment earns greater amount of interest. Give the difference between the amounts of interest earned by the two investments. Simple interst amount  = P * R * T   = $100,000 * 3 * .04 = $12000

 

Compound interest with the given conditions :

 

I =  100000(1 + .04/12)^(3 * 12) - 100000  =  $ 12727.19   [rounded]

 

The second option provides  $727.19  more interest........
