We have that
x + ( x - 5) = 90
2x - 5 = 90 add 5 to both sides
2x = 95 divide both sides by 2
x = 47/5°
And the smaller angle is 47.5 - 5 = 42.5°
90 = 45 + 45 = ( 45 + 2.5 ) + ( 45 - 2.5 ) = 47.5 + 42.5 = 90
