I think this should read.....

 

"mix 4 parts yellow and 2 parts red to get orange. how much red and yellow to get 2 gallons of orange"

 

If so........we have 6 parts in all.......the yellow is 4/6 of the mixture and the red is 2/6 of the mixture

 

So....amount of yellow  =  (4/6) * 2 gallons = 8/6 gals  = 4/3 gals

 

And the amount of red  =  (2/6) * 2 gals  =  4/6 gals  =  2/3  gals
