Total Weight of three chairs is 16.9 pounds. 1st chair is twice as heavy as the second. The weight of third chair is 1/3 of the 2nd chair. What is the weight of 1st chair ?

Let x be the weight of the 3rd chair

Then since it is 1/3 the weight of the second, the weight of the second must be 3x

And the 1st chair is twice as heavy as the second, so its weight = 6x

Then 6x + 3x + x = 16.9

10x = 16.9

x = 1.69

And he 1st chair's weight = 6(1.69) = 10.14 lbs.
