Not to sure how to do this

 

Rusty Burns 5 calories per minute swimming and 11 calories per minute jogging. In the morning Rusty burns 200 calories walking and swims for x minutes. in th afternoon fusty will jog for x minutes.how many minutes must he jog to burn at least as many calories y in the afternoon as he did in the morning? Round your answer up to the next whole number of minutes.

You have to set up an equation to solve this problem. 

 

He burned 200 calories jogging + 5 calories for every minute swam = 11 calories for every minute jogged

200 + 5x = 11x 

 

Subtract 5x from both sides.

200 + 5x = 11x

200 + 5x - 5x = 11x - 5x

200 = 6x 

 

Divide both sides by 6.

200 = 6x

200 / 6 = 6x /6 

33.3 = x 

 

Round to the nearest whole minute. 

33.3 rounds up to 34, because he has to do at least 33.3 minutes, so you will round up to 34. 

 

So, he must jog at least 34 minutes.
