You will have to know the price of gas in 1970  (or the size of the tank)      then you will have to take in to account inflation from 1970 to 2000    AND you will have to know the price of gas in yr 2000.      Go get 'em!

Information missing.

How much has changed in the cost of gas?

Price of gas in yr 2000 is not needed because the price will be directly proportional to the percentage of inflation......

Price of gas WILL be needed as gas prices fluctuate wildly and have increased in excess of inflation

I think we were thinking along the same lines......PROBABLY whay I DON"T need is inflation as THAT will be reflected in the gas price as well as the increse in price due to market variables/production costs/speculation  etc....so we just need the price of gas in 2000    (as well as the price of gas in 1970)....

Similarly to CPhill     I looked around     gas price was 36 cents/gal in '70  and 1.48 in 2000

1.48/.36  x 6 = $24.66 in 2000 to fill the same tank.
