Maybe you could combine the positive numbers first, then turn your mixed number into an improper fraction, then you will have to subtract 3/8 from an improper fraction with a 6 denominator...so next you will have to multiply each fraction by a special form of 1 to make a common denominator of...24.

The answer is 11+(19/24).

(1/6)=(4/24)

12=(288/24)

-(3/8)= (-9/24)

Add the numerators. 4+288-9=283

The final numerator will be 283. Since all of the denominators are the same, the final denominator will be 24.

(283/24)

If you divide those numbers, you get ~11.7917

The whole number is 11. Multiply 11*24 and subtract that answer from 283. The remaining number (19/24) will equal that last ~.7917.

Anyway, final answer is 11+(19/24)
