Solve for x:
2 x^2+3 x-7 = x^2+5 x+39

Subtract x^2+5 x+39 from both sides:
x^2-2 x-46 = 0

Add 46 to both sides:
x^2-2 x = 46

Add 1 to both sides:
x^2-2 x+1 = 47

Write the left hand side as a square:
(x-1)^2 = 47

Take the square root of both sides:
x-1 = sqrt(47) or x-1 = -sqrt(47)

Add 1 to both sides:
x = 1+sqrt(47) or x-1 = -sqrt(47)

Add 1 to both sides:
Answer: | x = 1+sqrt(47)       or        x = 1-sqrt(47)
