Using dimensional analysis, we have
34 in x [ 1 ft] / [12 in] x [ 30.5 cm] / [1 ft ] cancel units and we are left with
34 x [30.5 /12] cm =
34 * 30.5 /12 cm ≈ 86.42 cm
