1. Titus has collected a set of data and calculated the median to be 29. The set contains 75 numbers, but Titus gets an email telling him to add the following 6 numbers to his data: 23, 26, 26, 30, 33, 40
What is the new median for his data?
A) 28
B) 29
C) 30
D) 31
2. On Chatty Cathy’s cell phone plan she pays for minutes used plus a fixed monthly charge. For 500 minutes she pays $35 total, and for 1500 minutes used she pays $55 total. What is her monthly fixed charge?
A) $15
B) $20
C) $25
D) $30
Nice, tertre !!!
Here is the second one.....
Let F be the fixed charge and M be the cost per minute of use
So...we have these equations
500M + F = 35
1500M + F = 55
Subtract the first equation from the second and we get that
1000M = 20 divide both sides by 1000
M = 20 / 1000 = 2 / 100 = 2 cents per minute
So...using either equation to determine F, we have
500 (,02) + F = 35
10 + F = 35 subtract 10 from each side
F = 25 (dollars)
