This is a right triangle, and we know the length of the hypotenuse, and we want to find the length of the side adjacent to the  18° angle.

 

cos(an angle)  =  length of side adjacent / length of hypotenuse

 

cos 18°   =   x / 25            Now multiply both sides of this equation by  25 .

 

25 cos 18°   =   x

 

x   =   25 cos 18°              Plug this into a calculator to get...

 

x   ≈   23.78        cm
