2\(x = {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} \over 2a}\)

FIRST   add 5 to both sides to get:

3ln(x+4) = 8   then divide by 3

ln (x+4)  = 8/3     then   e

x+4 = e^(8/3)

x+ 4 = 14.3919

x = 10.3919

Solve for x:
3 log(x+4)-5 = 3

Add 5 to both sides:
3 log(x+4) = 8

Divide both sides by 3:
log(x+4) = 8/3

Cancel logarithms by taking exp of both sides:
x+4 = e^(8/3)

Subtract 4 from both sides:
Answer: | x = e^(8/3)-4
