(4x + 2)(x + 1)

 

First apply the FOIL (First, outer, inner, last) method

 

(4x + 2)(x + 1)

4xx + 4 * 1 * x  + 2x + 2 * 1

 

Then simplify

4xx + 4 * 1 * x  + 2x + 2 * 1

4x^2 + 4 * 1 * x + 2x + 2 * 1

4x^2 + 4x + 2x + 2 

4x^2 + 6x + 2

 

This was a little tricky if confused try looking up similar problems with the FOIL method.
