More than 100 students signed up to participate in the Geography Bowl competition. If teams of 3 could be made with no students left out, and teams of 9 could also be made with no students left out, what is the fewest number of students who could have signed up for the Geography Bowl?

If a number is evenly divisible by 9, it's automatically evenly divisible by 3, so don't worry about the 3.

So, what's the first number larger than 100 that's evenly divisible by 9.

Remember your multiplication tables?  9 x 12 = 108   and there's your answer.

Whoever said 107 should not be posting answers without also posting the work to get there.

The answer is 102.

We need an integer that is divisible by both 2 and 3, thus by 6, and it must be greater than 100 . The next number divisible by 2 and 3 after 100 is 102, so, the fewest number of students who could have signed up is 102 students.
