One number is 3 less than a second number. Twice the second number is 4 less than 3 times the first. Find the smaller of the two numbers
first number=x
second number=y
y-3=x
2y=3x-4
Solve.
2y-6=2x
-6=-x+4
-2=x
x=2
NOW FIND Y, IF Y IS SMALLER
Let the first number = x
And the second number = x + 3
And we know that
2(x + 3) + 4 = 3x simplify
2x + 6 + 4 = 3x
2x + 10 = 3x
10 = x = the smaller number
