p/3-7=-2

How is this solved?

I'm confused . . .

You would only multiply both sides by 3-7 if the question were  p/(3-7) = -2

 

As written, namely p/3 - 7 = -2 you first add 7 to both sides to get p/3 = 5, then multiply both sides by 3 to get p = 15

first you multiply the 3-7 over to the other side, and then distribute, so you have p=-6+14, which reduces to p=8.
