Write in vertex form.

$$y=-x^2-4$$

$$\\ y=-1x^2-4$$

$$f (x) = a(x - h)2 + k$$

(h, k) is the vertex of the parabola.

$$a=-1$$

$$y=-x^2-4\\ \frac{dy}{dx}=-2x=0\\ x_{max}=0$$

$$h=0$$

$$y_{max}=k=-x_{max}^2-4\\ y_{max}=k=0-4$$

$$k=-4$$

$$f (x) = a(x - h)^2 + k\\ f (x) = -1(x - 0)^2 -4$$

The equation of the parabola in vertex fotm is $$f (x) = -1(x - 0)^2 -4.$$
