11/3 LB  /  4/9 BAG  = 11/3  * 9/4  = 99/12  LB/BAG = 8 1/4  LB / BAG

 

Last weekend, Amy raked leaves in her front yard. She noticed that 11/3 pounds of leaves filled 4/9 of a bag. What is the unit rate for pounds of leaves per bag?     

 

Here's a little tip:  per means divided by. 

When you see the word "per" substitute "divided by"

so lbs per bag means 11/3 divided by 4/9 in this problem.
