In 2012 the school roll decreased by 5% to 741. What was the school roll in 2011?
If it decreased by 5%, then 741 is 95% of what it used to be.......so....
741 / .95 = 780 ....and that's what it was in 2011

I always think of it this way.
Let X be the original price.
Then 95% of X = 741
$$\\95\% * X = 741\\\\ $Divide both sides by 95$\%\\\\ X=741\div 95\%\\\\ X=741\div 0.95$$
