I had the problem 2.5x + 8 = 1.5x - 12
I first gathered like terms
I ended up having 1x because when carring over 1.5x from the right you sub tract
then I had a 8 I was curious if I keep the twelve on the side then subtract eight from it because thats what I did
and I got 4 then I divided 4 by 1 and got four I concluded x was four but got it wrong
what step did I mess up on?
PLEASE THOUGH NO ANSWER I WOUL JUST LIKE TO BE HINTED ON WHAT TO FIX.
i would have started with moving the right 1.5x to the left then move the left 8 to the right, but i dont know how I could help without giving a answer in someway shape or form
correct me if im wrong
I'm just not asking for you to physically stae the answer but point me in the right direction. yup so I did like terms but when I do the -12 and the eight do I leave the -12 there and subtract 8?
which in turn would leave me with negative 20 then I divide that by positive 4 and would I get a positive five or a negitive?
okay well when carring like terms from the other side of the problem you would have to subtract which would be
1x
No, here is the final step to your answer 1x = -20, I’m pretty sure you can take it from here
Yup I appreciate both of your efforts Thanks I didn't really want a direct answer because this is really a place to help people find the answer not give them it LOL so I was curious on were I should go with that problem....THANKS : )
Okay saying link is going alittle far wodint you say LOL!!!
I mean he is the hero of time and it is just that how do you know this guy or girl is the hero of time!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your mild humor but this isn't a chating area if you would like to chat use private message.
Remeber this: When given a problem with subtraction, DO NOT do subtraction. Whatever is the constant is, change it into a negative. (I may be bad at algebra, but I know that much I could give a small hint)
Thank you thats an appricated hint yup I kow my inverse operations good just get confused when I have a few more steps LOL
