The slope is given by

[y2 - y1]  / =x2 - x1]

So

(x1 , x2)    (y1, y2)  =

( 8 . -3)     ( 7,  k)

So

[ k  -  -3] / [ 7 - 8 ] = -3   simplify

[ k + 3] / [-1]   = -3    multiply both sides by -1

k + 3  =  3       subtract 3 from both sides

k = 0
