you are given the two roots of the equation    x  =  -3   and   x = 5, so the equation becomes

(x+3)(x-5) = 0        (note the sign change)       Expanded

x^2 -2x-15=0   or 

f(x) = x^2-2x-15   or

y = x^2 -2x-15
