Find the coefficient of $x$ when $(7+8x)-3(2+6x+2x^2)+9(1+3x+4x^2+12x^3)-9(7-x^2-8x^3+13x^4)$ is simplified.

Here's the result from Wolfram Alpha........

It's known to be pretty reliable............  it has 17x, as wel.....

Only three terms have will "x" associated with them .....8x

And distributing the "-3" across the "6x" in the parentheses we get -18x

And when we distribute "9" across the"3x" in parentheses we get 27x...so.....

8x - 18x +  27x   =   17x

Huh??.....those are the only three terms that have an " x " associated with them when we simplify this.....

I don't think I mis-added....

The things says that I am wrong, and I have one more chance. They don't make mistakes, I am pretty sure.

Wait! I am so sorry CPhill, I put 17x instead of 17 because it was asking for the coefficient not the full term! So sorry!

OK...just type in 17......I think they only want the coefficient ......not the "whole" term....
