A bird flies from the bottom of a canyon that is 5 3/5 feet below sea level to a nest that is 9 87/10 feet above sea level. What is the difference in elevation between the bottom of the canyon and the bird's nest?

Starting position =  - 5/3/5 ft

Finishing position = 987/10

Difference =  987/10 - (- 5 3/5) ft  ==== you can do the rest
