A box contains plain 4 pencils and 4 pens. A second box contains 5 color pencils and 7 crayons. One item from each box is chosen at random. What is the probability that a pen from the first box and a crayon from the second box are selected?Write your answer as a fraction in simplest form.

P(pen from the first box)  = 4/8   =1/2

P ( crayon from the second box)   = 7/12

 

So

 

P(pen from the first box  and crayon from the second)   =  (1/2) (7/12)  =  7/24
