Find Total Cost

Have a think about this:

Say 4 items cost $10, $15, $12 and $13
The total cost is 10+15+12+13 = $50
The average cost is $50/4 = $12.50
If I only knew that there were 4 items and that the average price was $12.50
I would still know that the total price was 4 x $12.50 = $50.

In other words, if I have the quantity and the average cost then I know that the total cost is quantity x average cost.
That is
TC = Q x AC
so in you question
TC = Q [ (12/Q^2) + (Q/2) ]
