How to neutralize a solution (answer in mL)? If the volume and molarity are know
for a solution to be neutralised you need the the molar values to be equal
so if your equation was - A + 2B = ...
you would need twice the Bs to neutralise the As
im assuming that mL = milliliters?
for any equation of neutralisation;
concentration (of A) times volume (of A) = concentration (of B) times volume (of B)
and you need to factor in the ratio
just plug in the concentration values (im assuming thats what molarity is) and the volumes (both sets need to be in the same units) and solve
eg.
HCl + NaOH === NaCl + H2O
if i have 20cm3 of NaOH at 0.5mol/dm3 and it neutralises 15cm3 of HCl - what is the concentration of HCl?
ratio of HCl to NaOH = 1:1
convert units - 20/1000 (cm3 to dm3)
therefore;
(20/1000) times 0.5 = (15/1000) times x
where x = concentration
((20/1000) times 0.5)/(15/1000) = x = 0.6recurring mol/dm3
