-3x + y - 8 = 0   ...(1)

2x2 + 3x - y = 0 ...(2)

Add 3x - y to both sides of (1) to get 3x - y = -8

Put this into (2)

2x2 - 8 = 0

Add 8 to both sides

2x2 = 8

Divide both sides by 2

x2 = 4

so x = ±2

Put this back into (1)

-3*(±2) + y - 8 = 0

Add 3*(±2) + 8 to both sides to get

y = ±6 + 8

or y = 14 and y = 2

So the two sets of solutions are x = 2, y = 14 and x = -2, y = 2
