Soooo.. you need to find the point that is   3   / (3+1) = 3/4 of the way from a to b

  from a to b  goes from 0 to -4     3/4 * -4 = -3     added to   0 =   -3

y   from a to b                    7 to 2 is -5     3/4 * -5 = -15/4    added to 7 is  13/4

Find the coordinates of P so that P partitions the segment AB in the ratio 3:1 if A(0,7) and B(−4,2).

A(0,7)      B(-4,2)

-4 / 4 = -1            -1 * 3 = -3

7 - 2 / 4 = 1.25         7 - ( 3 * 1.25 ) = 3.25

Coordinates of   P( -3, 3.25 )  wink
