Can someone help me combine like terms and simplify this? I don't understand how to do it.

4x - 3 (x - 2y) + 1/2 (6x - 8y)

Please respond as soon as possible!

you need to distribute.

4x - 3 (x-2y) + 1/2 (6x-8y)

= 4x -3(x) and -3(-2y) + 1/2(6x) and 1/2(8y)

= 4x -3x +6y + 3x + 4y

= (4x-3x+3x) + (6y+4y)

= 4x + 10y

That is a brilliant explanation.

Are you positive that is the answer? My friends are coming up with 4x + 2y. I've come up with 4x + (-10y)

I really do appreciate your answers. My math teacher is really picky and might collect this, so I want to make sure it is right.

Actually i did f**k up, i forgot to put -8y so it supposed to be -4y thus being 6y-4y and being 2y.

so 4x + 2y is right.

Don't give me s**t, it's really hard to type this problems out when i'm so used to punching it in on a calculator

Thank you so much! I mess up all the time, so one mistake isn't a big deal.

You just saved me from the wrath of my math teacher!

Thanks again!

sorry, I didn't notice.
It was still a really nicely laid out answer.
I was very impressed.
