Jason left a bin outside in his garden to collect rainwater. He notices that 1/5 gallon of water fills 2/3 of the bin. Write and solve an equation to find the amount of water that will fill the entire bin. Show your work. Explain your answer in words.

Please help and don't make it too difficult to understand. Thank You!

Note  that  1/5  gal  fills  2/3 of the  bin

So....we can use a proportion  to  find  the amount we  need

1/5 gal            ??? gal

______  =    ________       cross-multiply

2/3 bin             1 bin

1 * (1/5)  =   (???) *  (2/3)

1/5  = ( ???)  * (2/3)        multiply  both sides  by  (3/2).....this will cancel the fraction on the right  and we have that

(1/5) (3/2)  = (???)

(3 / 10 )  gallons  = (???)   .....the amount  to  fill the whole tank
