Matthew gave 1/4 of his stickers to May and 1/2 of the remainder to Lily. He then bought 24 new stickers. As a result, he had 102 stickers with him. How many stickers did he give away altogether?

Hello Guest!
Mathew owns x.
\(\frac{x}{4}+2\cdot\frac{x-\frac{x}{4}}{2}+24=102\\ \frac{x}{4}+x-\frac{x}{4}+24=102\\x=78\)
78/4=19.5 (78-19.5)/2=29.25
Matthew gave \(19\frac{1}{2}\) stickers to May and \(29\frac{1}{4}\) an Lily.
This is strange, I have to check:
\(x-(\frac{x}{4}+\frac{{x-\frac{x}{4}}}{2})+24=102\)
\(\frac{4x-x-2x+\frac{x}{2}}{4}=102-24\\ 1.5x=312\\ x=208 \)
208/4=52 (208-52)/2=78
Matthew gave 52 stickers to May and 78 an Lily.
