Hi, I'm really struggling to solve this problem, I've looked and looked for help, and I can't seem to find anything... here's the problem:

The equation of the line passing through (1,11) and (4,5) can be expressed in the form

\(\frac{x}{a} + \frac{y}{b} = 1.\)
Find \(a\).

Thanks for your help in advance. :)

First find the equation of the line        slope = 6/-3 = -2

point slope form of the line

  y-5 = -2(x-4)

 y-5 = 8 - 2x

y+2x = 13      divide by 13

y /13  + x / (13/2) = 1
